What does “CrossOver Everything” mean?

“CrossOver Everything” is a statement of truth. It refers to putting the cross - specifically, what was done on the cross - over everything. All the things we might get caught up in during the course of our lives - things in the physical, mental, social, emotional and financial realms - we bring them to the cross and lay them down, acknowledging and giving Christ authority over all. These things are often the greatest causes of stress and anxiety that can lead to depression and other discomfort in our lives:

  • Chasing peak physical perfection, only to find there is someone else in even better shape.
  • Chasing the perfect face, finding that others are more physically attractive.
  • Chasing intellectual mastery, finding there is someone who is even smarter.
  • Chasing professional achievement, only to find others who have achieved more quicker.
  • Chasing social popularity, only to find someone more well-known.
  • Chasing status, fame and reverence, finding others who are more famous and revered.
  • Chasing happiness only to find someone else is happier than us.
  • Chasing emotional stability, finding others who have even more emotional regulation.
  • Chasing financial security, only to find others with more security by having to “work less.”
  • Chasing financial abundance and being rich, only to find someone else that is even richer.

There is a self-destructive rhythm in our lives surrounding self-worth: we often chase and obtain, finally feel good, and then find that someone else has even more than what we just obtained, so the cycle repeats. As humans, we always “want more,” but once we finally HAVE more, we realize that the hole we were hoping to fill with more remains unfilled. We push ourselves for even more after that, which can lead to even more friction, disappointment and stress from either getting it or not getting it. What was done on the cross is finished.

We have all that the cross has to offer thanks to Christ. When we chase the cross and obtain what Christ accomplished on it, we will not find someone who has more than us - we are either saved or not saved, and by living out the act of putting the cross over everything, we are saved. As you can see, it’s far more than just a Christian slogan used for branding on merchandise and a logo we throw on content to make it “ours.” All glory belongs to God!

Scriptural References (read the full chapters):

  • Matthew 11:28-30 - "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light."
  • 1 Peter 5:7 -  "Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you."
  • Psalm 55:22 - "Cast your cares on the LORD and He will sustain you; He will never let the righteous be shaken."

What makes what was done on the cross so special?

Made with care and unconditionally loved by The cross is where Jesus died for our sins. He took on every sin in our lives - no matter how “evil” or harmless it may seem (spoiler alert: all sin is equal in God’s eyes and must be repented from) - and died with it, only to rise again from death three days later, victorious over sin. Because of this, death has no hold over our lives when we depart from this life, our sins have been erased from the record kept of all we have done in our lives. Society has twisted our understanding of morality and sin, and tries to tell us that some sins can never be forgiven from. While man and woman fail to forgive, God is all-forgiving. God is all-loving. God loves us so much that He took the first step by coming down as Christ to die for all of our sins - and in this death, he washed us clean of them - and through the resurrection, He cast the chain-like hold of them off forever.

Scriptural References (read the full chapters):

  • Romans 5:8 - "But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us."
  • 2 Corinthians 5:21 - "God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God."
  • Isaiah 53:5 - "But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed."
  • 1 Peter 2:24 - "He himself bore our sins in his body on the cross, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; by his wounds you have been healed."

Why do I need to repent if Jesus already died for my sins?

While the death and resurrection made the way for us to be cleansed of our sins, develop a relationship with and in surrender to Christ and experience everlasting, eternal life with God in heaven, repentance is us stating our intention to take steps on this road. None can walk with Christ before repenting from their sins, and this is difficult for many because there are things God calls sin that we don’t see as sin.

If Christ’s death and resurrection is seen as Him preparing the gift for us, repentance is us choosing to receive the gift. Another thing about repentance is this: we will repent MULTIPLE times over the course of our lives. None of us live a perfect, sin-free life like Christ did (in his perfection and blamelessness, He was the only one who could be sacrificed and carry the burden of our sins) and we will have to go back to Him to wash us clean in the blood he poured out for us on the cross again and again - which is okay! God is more than happy to make us clean again when we come to Him acknowledging that we are dirty. However, we have to come to Him, humble ourselves and declare that we have done wrong.

Scriptural References (read the full chapters):

  • 2 Peter 3:9 - “The Lord is patient, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.”
  • 2 Chronicles 7:14 - “If My people who are called by My name humble themselves, and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land."
  • Acts 3:19 - “Repent therefore and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, so that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord.”

What can I do to repent and live with Christ in my life?

Another blessing that has come from the death and resurrection is that God is with us wherever we are and whenever we want to speak with Him and enter into His presence. This means you can give your life to Christ right here and now! All it takes is coming to Him in prayer for the first time, and this is what you can pray when you speak to God for the first time:

“Jesus, I know and believe that You are the Son of God, God in the flesh. You died on the cross to wash me clean from my sins and rose again in victory to bring me back to the Father. I repent from every sin and transgression in my life that is not in accordance to Your will according to Your word. I choose You over my way. I choose You over my understanding. I give back to you my life, and everything in it. I receive your forgiveness and declare you as Lord and Saviour over my life. Teach me to be more like Christ, seek You out in the highs and lows, and live a life that pours out love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. I ask, pray and declare this in the name of Jesus, Amen.”

If you’ve prayed this prayer, congratulations! This is the best decision you can make in your life. A life in Christ is a life that never ends, even after death. Here are some first steps you can take to live out your faith:

  • Get connected with Christian community through church. (Psalm 122:1-9)
  • Make it a habit to pray each and every day - even for just a few minutes. (1 Thessalonians 5:17)
  • Try to read the Bible and learn more about God every day - even if it’s just a small passage. A good place to start is Matthew, Mark, Luke and John.
  • Engage with other followers of Christ during the week through a small group. (James 5:16)

Remember these key details about God as you begin your life with Christ as well:

  • God does not expect perfection from you; He wants you to do your best and come to Him when you stumble. (2 Corinthians 7:10)
  • God does not hate you and never will; He hates the sin that pulls you away from Him. (Psalm 97:10)
  • When God corrects, He does so in love; condemnation and shame is the work of the devil. (Romans 10:11)
  • God knows everything about you, and still loves you, and nothing will stop Him from loving you. (John 3:16)

We at CrossOver Everything exist to do what God has called us to do and make disciples of all nations (Matthew 28:19) and declare the Good News of what Jesus did on the cross for all. We welcome you to the international family of followers of Christ!
